Squeak was a real squirrel that lived in our log home at 20 mile Chena Hot Springs Road, north of Fairbanks, Alaska. It was the first Alaskan Game Bird Farm. We raised pheasants, quail, Sharp-tailed grouse and peacocks. In 1972 when we first found he and his brothers and sisters, they were tiny and their eyes were still sealed shut.
We never caged Squeak, and never touched him or tried to make him a pet. He stayed as wild as he wanted to be. He ate food from the dog bowl, and took things like cupcakes when I forgot to put them away. Sometimes I was upset with him, but we all enjoyed the years he lived with us
This book also contains a “Facts about three different Alaskan Squirrels” page for further information on Alaskan squirrels.
